Without

Without

===

A friend asked me:
What would you do
if
money was not a factor?

The question was not:
What would you do
if
you had a lot of money?

The root of the idea was not:
A fantasy of wealth
but rather
A fantasy of satisfaction

The idea was not:
To dream of extravagance
but rather
To dream of contentment

It made me realize:
The dreams might be the same for some
but for others
Wealth and Happiness only briefly connect

Some people believe:
Wealth is the end all to happiness
but for many
Wealth is only a means to wholeness

In considering, I realized:
While I desire wealth
it is not
for Anything but my own freedom

What I want most:
Peace, contentment, and the right to live
and not
The constant struggle to survive

If money was not a factor:
I would do many things I do now
without
the Damocles Sword above me

Man of a Thousand Worlds

There once was a man
From a thousand different worlds
Whose feet had felt the sand of a thousand beaches
And whose face was kissed by the sun

Now please don't forget
He was not the fastest man alive
For that was Usain Allen
Whose speed was bar none

Nor was he the strongest ever
Brian Kent held that privilege
Strong as an ox and powerful to boot
He could easily lift a ton

Now please don't claim
He was the smartest man known
That was Albert Strange
For so many galactic mysteries, he had undone

He was not the best pilot
Nor the best shot around
Oliver Yaegar held both those titles
And he'd shoot you just for fun

He was not the most devout
Of that I have no doubt
Lady Constantine certainly knew best
Afterall, she started as a nun

No, this man had traveled
And seen and explored
He knew he was not the best at anything
Not by a long run

And yet, so many turned to him
So many asked him questions
So many wanted to know
Just how he'd begun

He had given Usain his first shoes
And Brian his first weights
He'd talked for hours with Albert
And given Oliver his first gun

He'd wondered upon the universe
about how it fit into a plan
While it helped Lady Constantine settle down
He was never done

No, he wasn't the fastest or the strongest
The smartest or the best
But everyone knew his sparkling eyes
His old grey hairs and his love of a pun

He might be the wisest
Or so many said
But he simply didn't agree
Surely he'd find another one

If anything, he was the most traveled
The man from a thousand worlds
He had experienced so much
More than anyone

But in the end, he was only a man
A man with a love of the worlds
He didn't care for titles
For their beauty could stun

So let the strong be strong
And let the fast be fast
It didn't matter if he had a title
He was already someone

(Hello Lovelies. I hope you enjoyed my terrible little poem. I intend to tweak it and play with it to make it a little more manageable, but I really liked the concept for this story. If and whenever I am satisfied with it, I'll probably commission my wife to help me make it into a children's book. I feel like pictures will make all the difference here. That said, I hope you have a wonderful day!)

Don't Break the Chain - Main Page

Don't Break the Chain
---
A writer is only worth anything when they take the time to write.
Yet, not all writers can produce constant pieces of fantastic fiction.
This is where Don't Break the Chain comes in. DBTC posts are
writing done for the sake of writing. It keeps them fresh, keeps them
inspired, and can be anything from poems to journals to flash fiction
and more. We hope that you enjoy!

Repeating Myself - DBTC

Here I sit,
Laptop in hand,
Keys at tips,
My own tapping band.

Reading and writing,
Beating and rapping,
Creating and typing,
Clicking and tapping,

When I look back at old chapters
and realize with a start
I'm literally re-writing the last one
I've had a damn brain fart

Hours wasted
As I wipe the page clear
I'll have to try again tomorrow
And keep my old chapters a little more near

So sorry for a lack of a Smithy chap
I really meant to put one out
But it seems I'm repeating myself
I think I need to go and pout

Ghosts

In a far off place
In a tiny little town
There stands a house
On a street halfway down

It stands big and white
And two stories tall
It has rose bushes in front
With a little stone wall

I sit and I watch
This house that was once a home
Filled with another family
While I sit here alone

I'll never know this family
With faces that come and go
A little dog and a little car
And problems I'll never know

It's just the house that holds me
From my place of peace
It's the house that holds me
The memories never cease

It's a ghost that haunts me
A discarded shell of life forgotten
From a time when I young and happy
And my soul wasn't rotten

Those days are gone though
Lost to the wiles of time
My friends and family are gone now
Lost to disease and crime

So now I just sit here
Watching this house alone
Remembering faces and names long past
Watching the ghost that was once a home
